![]() ![]() Should you care of your users, people that made you a living for years, please consider the following: either (i) bring back a Classic environment, or (ii) help Sheepshaver development. Hello, it is well known that you dropped support for MacOS Classic applications in MacOS X for Intel. "To whoever at Apple that has the right information The only thing that worries me a bit is that the developer of Sheepshaver writes: To find a system CD won't be difficult - you can ask friends or look at ebay. You'll even find a ROM in the OS 9.0.4 updater from /Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/System/. I suppose Sheepshaver will run at least as fast on those Macs as OS 9 was a few years ago on the G4s, anyway - not too slow.įor extracting the ROM from the installer with Tomeviewer you just need classic, booting into OS 9 is not necessary. I think people will miss their classic now that there is no other choice than buying an Intel Mac. ( FYI - another 2006 link that's no longer valid - check. ![]() ( another reader mentioned a guide at /drupal/node/2810 but article no longer there) There's too much good old software that I cannot replace in OS X. "I don't have an Intel Mac yet but on my coming MacBook I'd definitely want to run OS 9. See below for later info, user reports, guides etc. on using Sheepshaver for Classic OS support with Intel CPU Macs, first mentioned in the January 2006 news page note on Experimental build of Sheepshaver for Intel Macs. This page is a 'catch-all' for info, feedback etc. (FYI: Some old links disabled after target pages no longer online.) Reports last Updated: Jan 9th, 2012 (from OS X Lion users) Info/Tips/Feedback on Sheepshaver for Classic on Intel Macs Mac Upgrades/Repairs | Storage | Video | Audio/Home Theater | OS Updates/Tips/Wi-Fi But patience and persistence are required.Feedback/Tips on Sheepshaver to run Classic (Mac OS 9 or earlier) apps on Intel Macs It will run most old Mac OS software just as well as you'd expect, therefore occasional crashes will occur. Be sure to run Disk First Aid fairly frequently in order to maintain your emulation boot drive. I personally recommend running Mac OS 8.6, my favorite version.įrom my testing, it works as well as the previous version 2.4. NOTE: SheepShaver is limited to running Mac OS 7.5.2 thru 9.0.4. More about SheepShaver can be found here: "For more information see the revised setup manual. "For a new setup, also download the SheepShaver folder. "If you have an existing SheepShaver setup, you can simply replace the application with the new application. "For Intel Mac, MacOSX 10.7 (Lion) through macOS 10.14 (Mojave) Notes about version 2.5 are available here: You are heartily invited to join the effort! Please note that I am pretty careless of the Windows version since I am not a Windows developer. The following platforms are currently supported: Linux (i386, ppc, x86_64), MacOS X (i386, ppc), Darwin, NetBSD 2.0, FreeBSD 5.3 and Windows for x86. Performance with the current CPU emulator using basic just-in-time (JIT) translation techniques is roughly 1/8-th of native speeds. On other systems, SheepShaver provides the first PowerPC G4 emulator, though without MMU, to enable the execution of Mac OS Classic. If you are using a PowerPC-based system, applications will run at native speeds (i.e., without any emulation involved). Networking: SheepShaver supports Internet and LAN networking via Ethernet and PPP with all Open Transport compatible MacOS applications.Native QuickDraw 2D acceleration for BitBlt and FillRect operations.Run-time depth switching from 1 bpp to current host depth settings.Color video display with support for run-time resolution switching.File exchange with the host OS via a Unix icon on the Mac desktop.Copy and paste of text between Mac OS and the host OS.Basic but portable JIT engine (x86, x86_64, mips).PowerPC G4 emulation on non-PowerPC platforms, direct execution otherwise.SheepShaver runs macOS 10.7 through macOS 10.14.SheepShaver is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). However, you still need a copy of Mac OS and a PowerMac ROM image to use this program. That is, it enables you to run PowerPC Classic Mac OS software on your computer, even if you are using a different operating system. SheepShaver is an Open Source PowerPC Mac OS run-time environment.
